RONG专访｜艺术家：徐毛毛、汪晓芙
在RONG源艺术空间举办的女性艺术家群展“原力”中，我们有幸对徐毛毛和汪晓芙两位艺术创作者进行了采访。
In the "The Force - A Group Exhibition of 7 Women Artists" held by RONG Gallery., we had the honour to interview 2 art creators, Maomao Xu and Xiaofu Wang .

Maomao Xu: The Leap from Cartoon to Reality

About the Artist
徐毛毛，1979年出生，自幼在母亲的引导下学习绘画，她的艺术之路从未停歇。她的作品在形态上呈现出纯粹卡通的特点，但在内容上却深刻反映了当下的现实生活。
Maomao Xu , born in 1979, has learnt painting since childhood under the guidance of her mother, and her artistic path has never stopped. Her works are purely cartoonish in form, but profoundly reflect the current reality in content.

策展人：在人类历史长河中，创世纪女神的地位逐渐从世界之母亲转变为万神之母，而非本身的神。你的作品中也有类似隐喻，比如苹果和蛇的元素，你是如何考虑的？
徐毛毛：我注意到了蛇、苹果、亚当和夏娃的故事，但人们往往将焦点放在夏娃如何去勾引亚当上，却忽略了其他细节。例如，这个蛇长什么样子？这个苹果是什么颜色的？它是个红苹果、蓝苹果还是绿苹果？又是一个长了几瓣叶子的苹果等。我们需要从一个新的视角来重新讲述这些故事，而非仅关注夏娃是否诱惑了亚当。
CURATOR: Over the course of human history, the status of the Goddess of Creation has gradually shifted from being the mother of the world to the mother of all gods, rather than a god in her own right. There are similar metaphors in your works, such as the elements of apple and snake.
Maomao Xu: I noticed the story of the snake, the apple, Adam and Eve, but people tend to focus on how Eve goes about seducing Adam, while ignoring other details. For example, what does this snake look like? What colour was this apple? Was it a red, blue or green apple? Another apple with several leaves, etc. We need to retell these stories from a new perspective rather than focusing only on whether Eve tempted Adam.

策展人：你毕业于西安美术学院，从画面来看，你在西安美院的学习经历是否对你的创作风格产生了影响？
徐毛毛：西安美术学院可能整体偏向乡土和现实主义那种写实风格一点。但我在上学时可能稍微有些与众不同。我并没有刻意追求某种表现手法或计划，这可能是天生的。
Curator: You graduated from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, judging from the images, has your study experience in Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts influenced your creative style?
Maomao Xu: The Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts may have favoured a more realistic style of vernacular and realism. But when I was in school, I might have been a little bit different. I didn't intentionally pursue a certain expressive technique or plan, which may be innate.

策展人：你的作品创造出了一种浓郁的画面感，例如颜色的对撞和平面化的处理。这是否与涂鸦艺术有一定关联？
徐毛毛：这可能与我小时候喜欢看漫画和卡通有关。一开始其实我的创作并非如此平面化，但近年来我逐渐发现这种简单的方式更能直接表达内心的想法。在颜色运用上，我一直喜欢强烈的对比，不太会调和很多颜色。因为我觉得在调色的过程中会消耗掉我很多激情。
CURATOR: Your work creates a strong sense of image, such as clashing colours and flatness. Is this somehow related to graffiti art?
Maomao Xu: This may be related to my love of reading comics and cartoons when I was a child. In the beginning, my creations were not so flat, but in recent years I gradually found that this simple way can express my inner thoughts more directly. In terms of the use of colours, I have always preferred strong contrasts, and I don't know how to mix a lot of colours. because I feel that the process of mixing colours will consume a lot of my passion.

Xiaofu Wang: A Dialogue between the Natural and the Supernatura

About the Artist
汪晓芙，一位出生于武汉，现工作和生活在上海的艺术家，她的艺术实践主要围绕绘画展开。她的作品通过绘画描述和观照事物的存在，探索存在与认知的边界，并试图揭示她与作品之间的相互重叠、折叠、溶解与遮盖的关系。汪晓芙的作品中，《旋转的风景》和《火中之人》的意象，呼应了她对自然和生命力的深刻理解，她的绘画不仅仅是视觉的享受，更是心灵的触动。
Xiaofu Wang is an artist born in Wuhan, now living and working in Shanghai, whose practice is centred around painting. Through painting, she describes and observes the existence of things, explores the boundaries of existence and cognition, and attempts to reveal her relationship with the works as they overlap, fold, dissolve and cover each other. The imagery in Xiaofu Wang's works, "Rotating Landscape" and "Man Born form Fire", echoes her deep understanding of nature and life force, and her paintings are not only a visual treat, but also a touch of the heart.

策展人：我注意到你的作品中既有文学性，又在视觉艺术与文学的结合上形成了一套独特的体系，这个体系与自然和生命力紧密相连，你是如何构思你的创作的？
汪晓芙：这种创作体验部分源自于对绘画媒介本身的深入思考。在作画过程中，画家作画的过程是背对窗户，让光线照射在画布上，面向画布，这种状态一方面将外部世界隔离，同时外部世界的信息通过一种类似光合作用的机制，经过画家主观的转化和发酵，转化为颜色、形式和材质，再呈现在画布上。这一过程类似于人们思考“情感”、“爱”等命题时的感受。它像是深入自我，发现自我像是一个深渊。有时我会将这深渊比喻为走进一个由万花筒构成的洞穴，既封闭又无限。
Curator: I have noticed that your works are both literary and have developed a unique system in the combination of visual art and literature, a system that is closely linked to nature and the life force, how do you conceptualise your creations?
Xiaofu Wang: This creative experience comes partly from deep thinking about the medium of painting itself. In the process of painting, the artist paints with his back to the window, letting the light shine on the canvas and facing the canvas. On the one hand, the artist isolates himself from the outside world, and at the same time, the information from the outside world, through a mechanism similar to photosynthesis, is transformed into colours, forms, and materials through the subjective transformation and fermentation of the artist and is then presented on the canvas. This process is similar to what people feel when they think about propositions such as "emotion" and "love". It is like going deeper into oneself and discovering that one's self is like an abyss. Sometimes I would compare this abyss to walking into a kaleidoscopic cave, closed and infinite at the same time.

策展人：我发现你的很多作品中都有一种旋转的力量，这和《环形废墟》中的理念有些相似，那种不断重复、旋转，然后又有新生的感觉。
汪晓芙：关于这个环形结构其实我还有一层思考：当一个人思考自己与世界的关系时，比如一个人在思考天空，天空就成为他的一部分。当他在天空下思考自己与天空的关系时，天空和他，以及天空下的他，就形成了一种环形的几何形态。
Curator: I find that there is a rotating power in many of your works, which is somewhat similar to the idea in The Circular Ruins, that feeling of constant repetition, rotation, and then new life.
Xiaofu Wang: I actually have another layer of thinking about this ring structure: when a person thinks about his relationship with the world, for example, when a person is thinking about the sky, the sky becomes a part of him. When he thinks about his relationship with the sky under the sky, the sky and him, and him under the sky, form a kind of ring geometry.

Through this interview, we are able to get a glimpse into the art world of Xu Maomao and Wang Xiaofu. Their works are not only a visual pleasure, but also a deep reflection on modern society, nature and life force. In their paintings, we see the unique "The Force" of female artists - a combination of creativity and vitality, which is perfectly expressed in the form of art.
