性别（gender）这一概念是人类认识世界过程中最基本的方式，这种认知的潜意识不仅体现于生物性别本身，更体现在物品、语言/文字、食物甚至数字与文化性的联想。其中，食物与性别关联的社会结构关系，从语言学的角度最早可追溯至人类的原始发展史：在盎格鲁-撒克逊(Anglo-Saxons（中文简称盎撒人，指的是一批在中世纪早期居住在英国英格兰的文化族群）语系里，「Lady（女士）」的词源是「hlaefdige」，意思是「揉面包的人」;而「lord（大人）」的词源是「hlafdige」，意思是「保有面包的人」。无独有偶，英文中的「Man（男士）」的词源来自拉丁文的「manure」，可以追溯至原始印欧语根“men-”，意思是用手栽培，或掌握施肥者，其原始的社会任务依然与“食物”有关。而「Child（孩童）」的词源是原始日耳曼语「kiltham（子宫）」，后演变为古英语 「cildhama」，意思是“子宫果实”…

The concept of gender is the most fundamental way in which human beings recognize the world. This cognitive subconscious is not only reflected in biological sex itself, but also in association with objects, language/words, food and even numbers and culture. Among them, the social structural relationship between food and gender can be traced back to the primitive development of human beings from the perspective of linguistics: in the Anglo-Saxons (a group of cultural groups living in England in the early Middle Ages), the etymology of the word 「Lady」 is 「hlaefdige」, meaning 「one who kneads bread」; while the etymology of the word 「Lord」 is 「hlafdige」, meaning "one who owns bread. Similarly, the etymology of the English word 「Man」comes from the Latin word 「manure」, which can be traced back to the original Indo-European root "men-", meaning those who cultivate or fertilize with their hands, whose primitive social task is still related to "food". And the word 「Child」 is derived from the Proto-Germanic word 「kiltham(womb)」, which later evolved into the Old English word 「cildhama」, meaning "fruit of the womb"...

从上述例子可知，人类对于“性别”的认知，自原始时期便镌刻着其社会功能的附属，并从而延伸对性别分化、阶级分化和意识形态的殖民意图。

From the examples above, it is clear that the human perception of "gender" has been engraved with its social function since primitive times, and thus extends to the colonial intent of gender differentiation, class differentiation and ideology.

基于此，人类学家玛丽 ·道格拉斯(Mary Douglas)说:「（我们生理概念上的）“身体”是一种有力的象征形式，文化中的主要规则、等级制度甚至形而上学的约定(metaphysical commitments)都记录在这个表面(surface)，因而通过“身体”这一具体的语言得到强化。」因此，我们所吃的食物、所穿的衣服、所墨守的规则，无不呈现在身体上，而“身体”所生发的型态、行为和关系亦反向结构了食物与人、与阶级、与思想经验的关系。

Based on this, Mary Douglas, the anthropologist, has pointed out that:「Physiologically, the "body" is a powerful form of symbolism, and the main rules, hierarchies, and even metaphysical commitments in the culture are recorded on this surface. This is thus reinforced by the specific language of "body".」 Therefore, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the rules we abide by are all presented in the body, and the forms, behaviors and relationships generated by the "body" also inversely structure the relationship between food and people, classes, and thoughts and experiences.

Resonating with Heidegger's view of "associating art with existence, that is, the connection between art and life", adhering to the concept of "Be Art, Even Life", YTHART MUSEUM will always carry out research, experimental and dialogical contemporary art practices with a "pan-cultural" attitude, creating history in production and occurrence, and facing the times.
