About the Artist
徐大卫，一位在画布上自由驰骋的探索者，以其独特的艺术语言，在“非现实”的疆域里构建了一个又一个视觉奇观。他的作品往往从色彩、笔触与肌理的随意涂抹中诞生，创造出一个又一个既具象又抽象、既现实又非现实的视觉奇观。徐大卫的作品，是他内心世界的真实写照，也是他对艺术无尽探索的见证。
Xu Dawei, an explorer who roams freely on the canvas, constructs one visual spectacle after another in the “non-realistic” territory with his unique artistic language. His works are often born from the random application of color, brushstroke and texture, creating one visual spectacle after another that is both figurative and abstract, realistic and non-realistic. David Xu's works are a true reflection of his inner world and a testimony to his endless exploration of art.

RONG源：介绍一下您此次展出的作品？
徐大卫：此次展出的作品绝大部分都是今年新画的作品。我创作的时候基本上不会预先做好构思或草图，都是从色彩笔触肌理的随意涂抹开始，在不断涂抹叠加的过程中各种形象慢慢开始显现，最终取舍或添加后确定一个方向让一个画面具体化。比如《伐木者》这张作品最开始我没有带任何主观意图去涂抹这张画布，甚至为了摈弃主观惯性我把它当成另一些作品的调色板，所以大家可以看到画面肌理感比较多，这些肌理不是刻意做的，而是创作过程中作为绘画的痕迹自然留下的。
RONG: Tell us about the works on display?
Xu Dawei: Most of the works on display are new paintings of this year. When I create, I generally do not make ideas or sketches in advance, but start from the random daubing of color brush textures. In the process of constantly daubing and superimposing, various images slowly begin to appear, and finally choose or add a direction to make a picture concrete.For example, I did not paint this canvas with any subjective intention at the beginning of the work "Lumberjack", and even used it as a palette for other works in order to abandon subjective inertia. Therefore, you can see that the texture of the picture is relatively large, which is not deliberately made, but naturally left as a trace of painting in the creation process.

RONG源：在您的参展作品中，你认为哪一件最能代表当前展览名《非现实表达》的理解和探索？
徐大卫：很难说哪一张作品最能体现“非现实表达”这个主题，我的作品都带有非现实的成分。非现实是基于现实的思考、反馈、困惑、逃离或什么也好。是现实的一种延伸或补充，是内在的需求，更多的是指向精神层面的东西，是人完整的一部分。我是这么理解的。
RONG: Among your works in the exhibition, which one do you think best represents the understanding and exploration of the current exhibition's title, “Non-Realistic Expression”?
Xu Dawei: It's hard to say which work best represents the theme of “Non-Realistic Expression”, but all of my works have non-realistic elements. Non-reality is a reflection, feedback, confusion, escape or whatever based on reality. It is an extension or supplement of reality, an inner need, and more towards the spiritual level, which is a part of the integrity of human beings. That's how I understand it.

RONG源：在您的艺术生涯中，有哪些特定的艺术家或艺术流派对您的创作产生了重要影响？
徐大卫：德国新表现主义绘画对我影响比较大。喜欢的艺术家很多，但很难说具体哪一个对我影响比较大，每个阶段都不一样。都有潜移默化的影响。
RONG: In your artistic career, what specific artists or art genres have had a significant influence on your creations?
Xu Dawei: German neo-expressionist painting has a greater influence on me. There are many artists I like, but it's hard to say which one influences me more, each stage is different. All of them have a subtle influence.

RONG源：您的作品中经常出现自然元素（如森林、山石等）的非现实描绘，这些元素在您的艺术语言中有何特殊意义？
徐大卫：作品中的自然元素它们只是作为绘画的形象出现，换成另一种形象同样成立的。当然绘画创作的形象肯定跟创作者自身个人的现实生活成长经历包括性格有关。我在山区出生长大周围都是山林、树木、河流，同时现实生活里我也喜欢一个人待着。所以很自然的会出现这些元素非现实描绘。
RONG: Non-realistic depictions of natural elements (such as forests, rocks, etc.) often appear in your works, what is the special significance of these elements in your artistic language?
Xu Dawei: The natural elements in the works only appear as the image of the painting, and it is equally valid to replace them with another image. Of course, the image created in a painting is definitely related to the creator's own real-life experience, including his or her personality. I was born and grew up in a mountainous area surrounded by mountains, trees, and rivers, and in real life I like to spend time alone. So it is natural that these elements are depicted in a non-realistic way.

RONG源：有什么新的创作计划或展览项目可以与我们分享吗？
徐大卫：目前正在准备九月底十月初的第二届武汉双年展的作品，接下去的创作可能会选取以往作品的一些内容让它们更加具体深入化的创作一批作品。
RONG: Do you have any new creation plans or exhibition projects to share with us?
Xu Dawei: We are currently preparing the works for the 2nd Wuhan Biennale in late September/early October, and will probably select some of the contents of our previous works to create a group of works that are more specific and in-depth.

解构现实，重构想象
Deconstructing Reality, Reconstructing Imagination
徐大卫的艺术风格，如同他笔下那些色彩斑斓、肌理丰富的作品一般，充满了无限的可能与惊喜。他摒弃了草图的预设与构思，让色彩与笔触在画布上自由流淌，最终汇聚成一幅幅既具象又抽象、既现实又非现实的视觉诗篇。
Xu Dawei's artistic style, like those colorful and richly textured works of his, is full of infinite possibilities and surprises. He abandons the preconceptions and ideas of sketches, and lets the colors and brushstrokes flow freely on the canvas, eventually converging into a visual poem that is both figurative and abstract, realistic and unrealistic.

在他的作品中，自然元素被赋予了新的生命与意义，不再是简单的物象再现，而是成为了情感与思绪的载体。通过对自然元素的非现实描绘，构建了一个既熟悉又陌生的世界，引导观者超越现实的束缚，进入一个充满想象与哲思的精神领域。
In his works, natural elements are given a new life and meaning, no longer a simple reproduction of objects, but a carrier of emotions and thoughts. Through the non-realistic portrayal of natural elements, he builds a world that is both familiar and unfamiliar, guiding the viewer to transcend the constraints of reality and enter a spiritual realm full of imagination and philosophical thinking.
