王一参加保时捷“中国青年艺术家双年评选”特别邀请展。此次特展由保时捷与上海市文社艺术基金会(Cc基金会)共同主办,ART021 HONG KONG香港廿一当代艺术博览会倾力协办,展览以“合金时代”为主题,不仅汇聚了保时捷“中国青年艺术家双年评选”历届12位获奖艺术家的创新作品和突破性探索,更首次纳入了中国香港本地艺术家的精彩创作。


此次展览携手13位青年艺术家联袂呈现,包括12位保时捷双年评选往届获奖者:吴俊勇、姚清妹、张鼎、陈抱阳、刘娃、刘辛夷、 郭城、刘昕、王一、李汉威、李明和童文敏。此外,来自中国香港的高倩彤首次受邀参展。

王一在展览中呈现了作品《初级结构:何处,此处,别处》。作品最初来源于绘画表面树脂层的剩余物,艺术家将其收集入一些无用的容器中便于丢弃。而这些层层叠叠的色层在数年间的无心之举下最终凝结成了留存时间与光的“琥珀”。


各个体块中的线与面、通透或遮蔽,锐利与柔和随着观看者的俯仰远近之间变化。流动环绕的体察方式则恰似东方传统山水观中的“横看成林侧成峰,远近高低各不同”,在此自然性与工业性将以灵动而冷峻姿态结合。


作品名称亦是对极少主义早期阶段(1966年)在纽约犹太人博物馆所办同名展览的回溯与致敬。王一吸纳了立体派、至上主义、风格派、包豪斯、国际主义建筑等现代艺术浪潮并将它们重新建构。当代城市和社会的形态变迁始终是王一抽象艺术的切入点,作品的组合如同雷姆·库哈斯在《癫狂的纽约》中所描述的网格化大都会,“这些土地被重新拼装为一个不可辨认、却始终精确的新整体”。王一希望在基本几何形状之中暗示社会层级、城市发展和历史文脉等多种议题,使抽象语言再次以开放多元的拟态与我们身处环境中的各种现象并融。

Wang Yi participated in the invitation exhibition of the Porsche "Young Chinese Artist of the Year".  This exhibition is co-hosted by Porsche and Cc Foundation, with support from the ART021 HONG KONG Contemporary Art Fair.  The exhibition, themed "Time of Alloy", not only showcases innovative works and groundbreaking explorations by 12 award-winning artists from previous editions of the Porsche "China Youth Artist Biennale Selection", but also for the first time features outstanding creations by local artists from Hong Kong, China.


This exhibition features the works of 13 young artists, including 12 past award winners of the Porsche Biennale: Wu Junyong, Yao Qingmei, Zhang Ding, Chen Baoyang, Liu Wa, Liu Xinyi, Guo Cheng, Liu Xin, Wang Yi, Li Hanwei, Li Ming, and Tong Wenmin. And also, Gao Qiantong from Hong Kong is participating as a first-time invited artist.

In the exhibition, artist Wang Yi presented his work Primary Structures:It had been one thing before, and now it was another. It was neither better nor worse. It was different, and that was all.  Originally derived from the residual layers of resin on painted surfaces, the artist collected these remnants into various discarded containers for disposal.  Over the years, these layered color strata unintentionally coalesced, ultimately forming an "amber" that preserves both time and light.


The lines and planes within each individual fragment exhibit transparency or obscurity, sharpness or softness, varying with the viewer's distance and angle of observation. This fluid approach to perception mirrors the traditional Eastern landscape viewing concept: "Viewed horizontally, it appears as a forest; seen from the side, it forms peaks; near or far, high or low, all are different".  In this context, naturalness and industriality intertwine, presenting a dynamic yet austere amalgamation.


The title of the work is a retrospective homage to the early phase of minimalism, specifically the exhibition of the same name held at the Jewish Museum in New York in 1966. Wang Yi draws upon various modern art movements, including Cubism, Suprematism, De Stijl, the Bauhaus, and International Style architecture, and reconstructs them in his practice. The transformation of contemporary urban and social forms remains a focal point for Wang Yi's abstract art, with the compositions resembling the grid-like metropolis described by Rem Koolhaas in Delirious New York : “These lands are reassembled into an unrecognizable yet precisely constructed new whole”.  Wang Yi aims to suggest multiple themes such as social hierarchies, urban development, and historical context within fundamental geometric shapes, allowing abstract language to engage in an open and pluralistic dialogue with the various phenomena present in our environment.

王一,1991年出生于上海,2016年硕士毕业于中国美术学院油画系,现生活工作于上海。


王一的创作围绕着对城市和自然环境的抽象化表达,探讨绘画的形式、材料和观念的转换。他试图通过用缓慢的个人手工劳作对峙快速生产消费的模式,以当代性的视觉感受回溯对于古典绘画艺术的敬意。王一的艺术创作是新一代中国抽象艺术家的典型之一,他们中的许多人选择了在创作中放弃任何对政治或社会的明显评论。在纯粹形式的探讨之外,王一则保留了部分根源于现实社会和自然的线索,他在作品中通过将单一的结构元素反复组合,讨论“一与全”的社会关系,同时指涉出网络环境中单元和集体、特性与统一间的相互消涨。

Wang Yi was born in 1991 in Shanghai, China.  He graduated with an MFA from the Oil Painting Department at the China Academy of  Art.  Currently, he lives and works in Shanghai.


Wang Yi's artistic creations revolve around the abstract expression of urban and natural environments, exploring the transformations in the form, material, and concept of painting. He attempts to confront the rapid production and consumption model through slow-paced, individual manual labor, invoking a contemporary visual appreciation that pays homage to classical art. Wang Yi exemplifies the new generation of Chinese abstract artists, many of whom consciously abstain from overt political or social commentary in their artworks. Beyond pure formal exploration, Wang Yi retains elements rooted in real societal and natural contexts. In his pieces, he repeatedly combines singular structural elements to discuss the social relationships between the individual and the collective, also hinting at the interplay between units and collectives, uniqueness and uniformity within the context of network environments.


His recent solo exhibitions include “Dark Light Bright Night”, AIKE, Shanghai, China, 2020; “Geometry Rules All Phenomena: Wang Yi”, Hive Centre for Contemporary Art, Shenzhen, China, 2018; “Inside and Outside: Claude Viallat & Wang Yi”, HdM Gallery, Beijing, China, 2018; “Yi Ri Guang”, AIKE, Shanghai, China, 2016; “Wang Yi”, HdM Gallery, Hangzhou, China, 2014; “Nothing”, J:Gallery, Shanghai, China, 2012.
