Wu Da-Yu (1903-1988) was born in Jiangsu Yixing in 1903, Wu was the first generation of Chinese abstract painting representative. He went to France in 1922 to study art at Paris High Art Institution and Bourdelle’s studio. Then Wu founded Hangzhou's National Academy of Art along with Lin Fengmian, inspired an entire generation of Chinese artists. His students include Wu Guanzhong, Zao Wou-Ki, Chu Teh-Chun and others. Many of his paintings depict casual subject matter seen in everyday life. He cleverly transforms concrete images with the momentum of Chinese brushwork, blending abstraction with the exquisite charm of Chinese culture. Wu creates impressions that resemble something without being literal. His wild brushstrokes and vivid colors form rhythmic spaces while delivering a spirit of natural harmony.

Chen Tao-Ming (1931-2017) was born in Shangdong. He co-founded Ton Fon Art Group and was dubbed "The Eight Highwaymen of the East." Chen has been eager to explore the variations of materials, formations, and colors. He made use of the fluidity of water-based paints such as acrylics and watercolors to generate atlas-like tableaus vibrating with musical rhythms. The concrete matters and abstract momentum come to clash on the canvas to allow the mind to freely wander in time, reflecting his inner vibrancy of life and the capture of time.

Zhao Zhao (1982- ) was born in Xinjiang, China and currently lives and works in Beijing and Los Angeles. Zhoa’s paintings, which combine traditional and contemporary elements, explore his philosophical thinking between East and West, and reveal his connection to his own culture. His new series “Seeds” goes beyond the traditional depiction of floral scenes. Colorful flowers with dots explore the continuity and cycle of life. And the title “Seeds” refers to the Zen thoughts of the life circle.
Shen Liang

Shen Liang (1976- ) was born in Liaoning, China and currently lives and works in Beijing. The artist has been thinking about the issues of tradition and daily life and giving diversified contemporary perspective to traditional Eastern literati painting. He creates from his personal observation of daily life, combining the spirit of Chinese ink with the medium and technology of Western art. By layering objects, his work reconstructs a world of imagination through Eastern defacement and constitutes a certain kind of reality beyond the objects and constant practices to realize the aesthetic tradition that runs in his veins.
Xu Hualing

Xu Hualing (1975- ) was born in Heilongjiang, China, currently teaches in the Department of Chinese Painting, Chinese Painting at Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). Xu's works are inspired by the youthful images of contemporary women and her daily surroundings. All the time, intricate line and pale colors have always been the distinctive features of Xu's works. She consciously avoids delineating the outlines in traditional Gongbi painting. Instead, she uses light and shade and purposefully weakens the contrast. The pale colors render the blurring of a faint and misty figure. Xu also places the realism of traditional brushwork and the reality of photographic printing on the same surface enriches the hierarchy of the picture, showing the world like a daydream in her eyes.
Yang Bodu

Yang Bodu (1986- ) was born in Tianjin, China and currently lives and works in Beijing. Yang’s works are explored an "art scene" that departs from the spiritual dimension, depicting the architectural scenes of museums, galleries, and other art institutions. She mixes the private view with the public art space. She has looked at these evenly lit, dramatically constructed architectural moments as ways of seeing as well as the eventual foundations for individual material paintings. Her practice takes place in this uncanny space between private and public, between making and viewing, and between seeing and being seen.
