庄学本（1909-1984）上海人。曾任上海《良友》画报、《中华》画报、《申报》画刊特约摄影记者。他是中国现代影像人类学的杰出先行者，同时也是杰出的摄影艺术家，他的摄影不仅是一门艺术，还是具有“人类学”“和“图像志””意义的影像，其作品所具有的历史性意义以及文化品质，无疑是中国摄影历史上真正值得引以为骄傲的。1934年至1942年，庄学本在四川、云南、甘肃、青海四省少数民族地区进行了近十年的考察，期间拍摄了万余张照片，写了近百万字的调查报告、游记以及日记，为中国少数民族史留下了一份可信度高的视觉档案与调查报告。

本次展览从广东美术馆馆藏的251件庄学本作品中，精心遴选展出70余件他于1934年至1940年间行走在四川、青海途中所留下的印迹，让我们从一望无际的山地与荒芜进入，在流淌着古老生命能量的变迁中，通过寻找、追忆和想象来进行重现和重构；在庄学本的作品及文字中，感受对自然、生命和人类尊严的关怀；在这种崇高和沉实的知觉中，洞察到那种在特定的年代和地理空间维度中闪现的人性的光芒。

ZhuangXueben (1909-1984) was a native of Shanghai. He worked as a specialphotographer for the Shanghai pictorials The Young Companion (《良友》), Zhonghua（《中华》）, and Shun Pao ( 《申报》; Shen Bao）. He was an outstanding pioneer of modernChinese visual anthropology and an excellent photographic artist, and his photographs’ historical significance andcultural quality are undoubtedly something to be truly proud of in the historyof Chinese photography. During the period of 1934-1942, Zhuang set off formultiple field trips to ethnic minorities’ habitation in Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansuand Qinghai province, and took more than ten thousand photographs and wrotenearly a million words of research reports, travelogues and diaries, leaving usa credible visual archive and survey for the history of China's ethnicminorities.

In 2009, thanks to hisson, Mr. Zhuang Wenjun's generous donation, the Guangdong Museum of Art made anintegrate collection of Zhuang Xueben's photographic works during the 1930s and1940s, totaling more than 250 pieces. In this exhibition, more than 70 ofpictures from this collection are carefully selected, guiding us to enter thenarrative of the primitive lands where the ancient energy of life flows, tofeel his concern for nature, life and human dignity, and to gain insights intothe light of humanity that shines in the specific time and space.
