2005年MoCA上海当代艺术馆扎根上海，开启了它持久而多元的艺术使命，是中国大陆最初创立，具时代先锋意义的当代艺术馆。成立二十年来，上海当代艺术馆始终致力打造国内外艺术家展示交流的艺术文化平台，为来自本土与世界的先锋艺术与设计打开了艺术新生态的窗口，逐渐成长为真正意义上的“人民的艺术馆”。

作为一家独立运作的艺术机构，上海当代艺术馆至今已累计举办艺术、设计、影像以及建筑展览及文化艺术活动近200场，不仅为中国当代艺术画下了浓墨重彩的一笔，更为上海当代艺术的发展交织出一张联系全球的国际网络，获得“亚太私人博物馆理事”、“国际现当代艺术博物馆成员”等国际殊荣。

在建馆二十周年之际，MoCA上海当代艺术馆立足中国经验与国际资源荣幸地宣布：正式启动“西行记”计划！未来MoCA将在纽约、威尼斯、伦敦等地构筑起崭新的当代艺术空间与艺术项目，为东西美学的交流与创新提供连接全球的落脚点。同时MoCA也将汲取人文艺术与科技革新的前沿成果，与顶尖科学家与科创企业合作，进一步探索科学与艺术的融合，为当代艺术的未来打开全新可能。

Founded in 2005, the MoCA Shanghai ( Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai) is a pioneer private contemporary art museum established in China. We committed to promote contemporary art and design, with an aim to cultivate the appreciation of contemporary art and design for the general public.

It is our mission to introduce arts to the public and foster cultural exchange between China and the world.

As an independently operated art institution, MoCA Shanghai has hosted nearly 200 exhibitions and cultural events spanning art, design, film, and architecture. Not only has it made a significant mark on China's contemporary art scene, but it has also woven a global network connecting Chinese’s contemporary art to the world. In recognition of its achievements, MoCA Shanghai has been honored with international accolades, including membership in the "Asia-Pacific Private Museum Committee" and the "International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM)."

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, MoCA Shanghai is proud to announce the official launch of the "Journey to the West" initiative. In the future, MoCA will establish new contemporary art spaces and projects in cities such as New York, Venice, and London, creating global hubs for the exchange and innovation of Eastern and Western aesthetics.  

MoCA上海当代艺术馆二十周年庆暨"西行记"计划媒体发布会于2025年2月12日下午圆满举办。众多MoCA的合作伙伴、艺术家、媒体代表，以及多国驻华大使馆领事等到场庆贺。

The 20th Anniversary Celebration of MoCA Shanghai and the MoCA "Journey to the West" Project Press Conference was successfully held on the afternoon of February 12, 2025. Numerous MoCA partners, artists, media representatives, as well as consuls from various embassies in China, gathered to celebrate this milestone.

庆典从周年回顾影像开始，多位艺术家、收藏家、艺术评论家与学者对MoCA为当代艺术与上海文化发展做出的贡献给予了肯定。

The celebration commenced with a retrospective video, during which numerous artists, collectors, art critics, and scholars praised MoCA's significant contributions to the development of contemporary art and Shanghai's cultural landscape.

接下来，上海当代艺术馆执行馆长孙文倩致辞，宣布启动MoCA"西行记"计划。她具体介绍了即将于威尼斯、纽约、伦敦落成的多个项目，由MoCA支持的两部艺术电影，以及未来将与MoCA展开深度合作的元象科技"行浸式XR影院体验（VISION WALK）"项目。

MoCA Shanghai's Executive Director, Miriam Sun, officially announced the launch of the MoCA "Journey to the West"Project. She outlined several key initiatives, including upcoming projects in Venice, New York, and London. She also introduced two art films supported by MoCA, and the significant collaboration with XVERSE on the "VISION WALK" project.

元象科技联合创始人赵强先生通过视频发来贺电。他表示，希望通过此次与MoCA极具开放性的合作，以大模型与VR技术为艺术场馆注入新的想象与活力，用科技的力量点亮艺术的可能。元象科技运营负责人李兵则表示，期待未来与MoCA一起推动中国文化艺术走向世界。元象科技商业化上海负责人Tammy也到场祝贺。

Mr. Zhao Qiang, Co-founder of XVERSE Technology, sent his congratulations via video message. He expressed his hope that this profound collaboration with MoCA would bring new dimensions and vitality to art venues, leveraging large models and VR technology to unlock new artistic potential. Mr. Li Bing, Head of Operations at XVERSE, expressed his enthusiasm for working with MoCA to jointly promot Chinese art and culture globally. Tammy, Head of Commercialization at XVERSE in Shanghai, also attended the event to extend her congratulations.

庆典的最后，上海当代艺术馆馆长龚明光、执行馆长孙文倩与众来宾共同举杯，向着上海当代艺术馆的崭新未来与无限可能致敬！

The event concluded with a toast, as MoCA Shanghai's Director, Samuel Kung, Executive Director Miriam Sun, and the guests raised their glasses to celebrate the bright future and limitless potential of MoCA Shanghai.

作为"西行记"的重点项目，上海当代艺术馆将在纽约市中心建成一个全新的纽约当代艺术基金会与国际艺术家驻留项目。作为文化出口与艺术驻留的创新基地，MoCA纽约将为优秀的全球青年艺术家提供国际化的交流与展示平台。通过举办展览、论坛、讲座等艺术文化活动，MoCA纽约在助力华人当代艺术新生力量成长的同时，也将建成一个充满活力的跨国艺术交流平台，为全球当代艺术的新生代打开更多新的可能。

As a key initiative of the "Journey to the West" project, MoCA Shanghai is establishing a brand-new MoCA New York Foundation and International Artist Residency Program in the heart of New York City. Serving as an innovative hub for cultural exchange and art residency , MoCA New York will provide a global platform for outstanding young artists to learn, connect, and showcase their work to  international audiences. Through exhibitions, forums, lectures, and cultural events, MoCA New York will not only support the growth of emerging Chinese contemporary artists but also foster a vibrant transnational artistic exchange platform—unlocking new possibilities for the next generation of global contemporary art.

继五度举办威尼斯双年展平行展后，上海当代艺术馆将在威尼斯打造融科技与艺术美学为一体的"江南艺术园林"。上海当代艺术馆将与威尼斯国际大学（VIU）紧密合作，在圣塞尔沃洛岛建园。"艺术园林"将以中国江南园林的造园意趣与哲思为本，以新媒体数字艺术为媒，在潮起潮落、亦虚亦实间，通过新颖的艺术表现方式与跨学科的主题展览，为两个同样依水而建的文明续写跨越时空的对话。

After five successful editions of the Venice Biennale Collateral Exhibition, MoCA Shanghai is set to establish a "Jiangnan Art Garden" in Venice, blending technology with artistic aesthetics. In close collaboration with Venice International University (VIU), MoCA Shanghai will create this unique space on Island San Servolo . Rooted in the philosophy and artistic essence of traditional Jiangnan gardens, the "Art Garden" will serve as a bridge between cultures, using new media and digital art as its medium. Through the ebb and flow of tides, the interplay of reality and illusion, and an innovative approach to artistic expression and interdisciplinary exhibitions, this project will continue the timeless dialogue between East and West civilizations.

以水为媒，上海当代艺术馆与英国艺术与多媒体领域享负盛名的Goldsmiths学院达成合作，联手知名生成艺术家William Latham与上海当代艺术馆执行馆长孙文倩共同策展，并邀请牛津大学与帝国理工学院科学家和中英两地艺术家以黄浦江和泰晤士河或是结合伦敦和上海每日的股市数据为创作基因，展开艺术、科技、金融之间的三方对话；或是从生物医学的角度，将有机数据与无机编程相结合，生成独一无二的蛋白质艺术语言。运用编程、AI与数字艺术，探索科学与艺术间的化学反应。

这场跨文化的艺术实践，将助力时代性新兴艺术语汇的创造，也将为推动全球城市间的多元合作贡献力量。

Using water as a medium, In coming June, MoCA Shanghai collaborates with Goldsmiths, University of London, Oxford University and Imperial College London. For art and science project, MoCA invites renowned British generative artist William Latham as a co-curator with MoCA Shanghai Executive Director Miriam Sun to join forces with emerging young artists from Britain and China to explore the chemistryand possibility between science and art by  mixing programming, AI technology and digital art together..

Artists and scientists use the Huangpu and the Thames Rivers as cultural bridges, either collecting real-time river data to create generative art, integrating daily stock market data from London and Shanghai to spark a dialogue between technology, finance, and art, or combining organic data with inorganic programming from a biomedical perspective to generate a unique protein-based artistic language. This cross-cultural artistic practice not only contributes to the creation of a new artistic vocabulary reflective of our time but also fosters diverse collaborations between global cities.

"科技+艺术"作为上海当代艺术馆的重要发展方向，MoCA携手元象科技成为战略合作伙伴，共同开拓国内、外博物馆行业，用大模型和VR技术，共同丰富博物馆消费内容在艺术展览中融入行浸式XR影院体验（VISION WALK）。此项目由国内外顶尖专家团队联手打造，以电影级的视听效果，开启全新的沉浸式艺术体验，让观众得以在虚实交融的艺术世界自由探索、互动。即将落地上海的MoCA XR艺术空间，也将成为跨学科的艺术实验场，链接全球艺术与科技领域的合作伙伴，实现科技高度与艺术温度的双向奔赴，探索科学与艺术的无限可能。

As a key development direction for MoCA Shanghai, the integration of "Technology + Art" has become a significant focus for the museum. While partnering up with XVERSE, MoCA has embarked on a strategic collaboration to expand the museum industry both domestically and internationally. Together, large models and VR technology are utilized to enrich museum experiences, incorporating immersive XR cinema experiences (VISION WALK) into art exhibitions. This project, crafted by a team of top experts from both China and abroad, offers cinema-quality audiovisual effects, creating an entirely new immersive art experience. It allows visitors to freely explore and interact within an artistic world where the virtual and physical worlds blend seamlessly. The upcoming MoCA XR Art Space in Shanghai will also serve as an interdisciplinary art experimental space, connecting global partners in the art and technology fields. This collaboration will achieve a dual journey—combining technological advancement with the warmth of art, and exploring the infinite possibilities of science and art.

在影像艺术领域，今年将会有两部由MoCA赞助的中国艺术电影陆续登上国际舞台。

王志斌导演的纪录电影《无声有声》（Mute of Sound aka MOS）由上海当代艺术馆馆长孙文倩担任制片人，历时三年拍摄，聚焦一群聋人高中生的成长之旅。影片在静与声的对照中，呈现主人公们如何在无声的世界里感知节奏、诠释音乐，通过舞蹈表达自我，赋予"无声"以别样的回响。

由Ag（沈仲旻）导演的《上海女儿》（The Seed Will Sprout）通过女性细腻的视角，糅社会历史、?态主义与?类学的观察，诗意而奇幻地展现了一位上海女儿在西双版纳寻访父辈的旅程。影片在纪录与剧情之间游走，以影像实验的方式探索了叙事的边界。

In the field of film art, this year, two Chinese art films sponsored by MoCA will make it it way to a shine at international stage.

Directed by Wang Zhibin, the documentary film Mute of Sound (MOS) is produced by MoCA Shanghai Executive Director, Miriam Sun. Filmed over three years, the documentary focuses on the growth journey of a group of deaf high school students. The film contrasts silence and sound, portraying how the protagonists perceive rhythm and interpret music in a soundless world. Through dance, they express themselves and give a unique resonance to the concept of "silence". 

Directed by Ag (Shen Zhongmin), The Seed Will Sprout offers a delicate, female perspective that blends social history, ecology, and anthropological observation. The film poetically and fantastically portrays a journey of a Shanghai woman as she searches for her ancestors in Xishuangbanna. With a narrative that moves between documentary and drama, the film experiments with the boundaries of storytelling through visual techniques, pushing the limits of narrative forms.

Over the past two decades, MoCA Shanghai has shone like a brilliant jewel in the constellation of contemporary art. From its origins as a glass greenhouse to its current status as an art temple, MoCA has become more than just a space for art exhibition; it has transformed into a gravitational field of contemporary art. It has drawn art and culture from around the world, where they collide and intersect, breaking boundaries of nations and cultures and creating countless artistic legends.

Over the past two decades, MoCA has adhered to the development philosophy of "Cross+", driving innovation and diversification in contemporary art exhibitions. From organizing and hosting the first major Chinese exhibition of Yayoi Kusama, to collaborating with global luxury brands such as Dior, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Ferragamo, and Bvlgari to pioneer a new trend in art exhibitions, MoCA has continuously reshaped the landscape of art and culture. Additionally, MoCA launched the "Anime Aesthetics Biennale" to explore a new generation of visual language and aesthetic systems. In its unique way, MoCA has connected the pulse of global art, bridging the gaps between tradition and modernity, East and West, and art and fashion. The exhibitions have created a powerful cross-boundary wave, leaving indelible memories for countless art lovers.

在科技革新不断加速的时代，MoCA率先拥抱新兴技术，推动了科学与艺术的深度融合。在入选2024年度上海市“中华文化国际传播”项目的威尼斯双年展《镜中行旅》中，由馆长孙文倩担任总导演的《DNA》系列，获诺贝尔化学奖得主迈可?列维特启发，结合AI、DNA编辑与艺术家创作，传递出生命体自我编辑与演进的美学；《费里尼天地》元宇宙首展则打破虚实边界，带领观众进入了经典影像的多重世界；展览《我，无可定义》通过多元化艺术创作手法，重释弗里达，展开跨越时空的艺术对话……这些跨学科的艺术实践，在虚拟与现实间搭建起新颖的艺术场域，也对未来艺术的生成语法做出了重要探索。

In an era of accelerating technological innovation, MoCA has been at the forefront, embracing emerging technologies and driving the deep integration of science and art. At the 2024 Venice Biennale ‘TRAVELLERS MIRROR CITIES’, which was selected for the 2024 Shanghai "International Communication of Chinese Culture" project, the "DNA" series, directed by MoCA Executive Director Miriam Sun, was inspired by Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Michael Levitt and combined AI, DNA editing, and artistic creation to convey the aesthetics of self-editing and evolution in living organisms. The "Fellini's World" metaverse exhibition broke the boundaries between the virtual and the real, taking audiences into the multiple worlds of classic cinema. Additionally, the exhibition "I, Undefined" reinterpreted Frida Kahlo. Through diversified forms and AI technology, presenting a timeless artistic dialogue across space and time.

These interdisciplinary artistic practices have created innovative art spaces between the virtual and the real, making significant explorations of the future of artistic creation and language.

与此同时，为践行“一座没有墙的艺术馆”的发展理念，MoCA以“艺术行动力”项目为支点，持续推动艺术与公众生活的深层联结。通过开办公共艺术项目、“校园行” 公益艺术教育讲座等活动，MoCA让当代艺术走入不同群体与寻常百姓之中，铸就了真正属于每个人的艺术共同体。

At the same time, in alignment with its development concept of "The museum without walls," MoCA has continuously pushed the deep integration of art with public life through its "Art Momentum" initiative. By organizing the public art project in the city, workshops, art lectures in campus ect, MoCA brings contemporary art to special groups, youth communities, and ordinary citizens, creating a true artistic community that belongs to everyone.
