2025年2月21日，Fotografiska 影像艺术中心将携手首席展览合作伙伴 SIGMA适马（中国）为大家带来川内伦子个展《遥远闪亮的星，在手中闪烁》，展览由北京日本文化中心（日本国际交流基金会）特别支持。

艺术家川内伦子以温柔的视角和细腻的情感，表达了她对生活的深刻探索，也是她对世界的一次温柔拥抱。

On February 21, Fotografiska Shanghai will open a faraway shining star, twinkling in hand, a major solo exhibition by renowned photographer Rinko Kawauchi, in partnership with Lead Exhibition Partner SIGMA (China) and Supporting Partner the Japan Foundation, Beijing,

With her tender perspective and nuanced emotional depth, Rinko Kawauchi articulates a profound exploration of life, as well as a gentle embrace of the world.

在她的镜头里，生命是脆弱、神秘，又极具光辉的。她作品中柔和的色彩与灵动的光线低语着生活的细微变化。她是细腻的观察者，用影像缓缓陈述着关于“生活”的哲学诗歌。

本次展览展出艺术家近年来的重要系列作品，包括《M/E》和正在进行的项目《An interlinking》。

Rinko Kawauchi captures the fragility, mystery, and brilliance of existence through her lens. Her works feature soft hues and glowing light, subtly narrating the small changes of the quotidian. As a sensitive observer, she weaves philosophical poetry of life through her evocative imagery.

This exhibition features two of Kawauchi’s significant recent series: M/E and the ongoing project An interlinking.

《M/E》系列

《M/E》系列（“ME”为英语 Mother Earth 的缩写）向“地球母亲”致敬，展现了川内伦子2019年在冰岛拍摄的大自然壮丽景象，与她在疫情期间拍摄的日常生活和北海道冬季的影像。

同时，M/E 的字母也可解读为“me”（我），象征着个体与广袤“地球母亲”之间的紧密连接。川内伦子提到，“当我写下‘地球母亲（Mother Earth）’的首字母‘M/E’时，我感受到了一种将所有事物联结起来的纽带——我感到了一种将万物连接在一起的关系。从那些庞大到肉眼无法完全看清的存在，到微小的个体，都有着某种神秘的联系。这让我想起在火山口下的那种体验——天地之间的倒置与融合，自己与地球的深刻联结。”

The M/E series (where “M/E” stands for “Mother Earth”) is a tribute to nature, showcasing natural landscapes captured during Kawauchi’s 2019 trip to Iceland with images from her daily life and winter in Hokkaido, that she photographed during pandemic.

The letters M/E can also symbolize “me,” representing the profound connection between individuals and the vast “Mother Earth.” The artist mentions, "Take the initials of 'Mother Earth', and the result is 'M/E'. When I wrote out those two letters, I felt a connection between all things, from those so vast their full form cannot be surveyed with the naked eye to the tiniest individuals, and was reminded of that mysterious sensation I experienced beneath the volcanic crater, of inversion and unity between the planet and myself.

《An interlinking》系列

《An interlinking》是一部跨越二十年的视觉日记，系列中的作品如同一条细腻的线索，将日常生活的碎片串联起来。川内伦子以其特有的温柔视角和细腻情感，捕捉了生活中那些看似平凡却又充满意义的时刻。通过她的镜头，日常的场景被赋予新的生命，它们是流动的故事，是情感的流露，也是时间的见证。艺术家邀请观众去观察自己的生活，去发现那些在日常忙碌中被忽略的美好。

An interlinking is a visual diary spanning 20 years, where the works form a delicate thread, weaving together the fragments of Kawauchi’s everyday life. Through her uniquely gentle perspective and delicate emotions, Rinko Kawauchi captures moments that seem ordinary yet are filled with profound meaning. Through her lens, mundane scenes are imbued with new life—they become flowing narrative, emotional revelations, and witnesses to the passage of time. The artist extends an invitation to the viewers to reflect upon their personal journey, encouraging the discernment of beauty that frequently remains concealed in the busyness of daily routines.

展览陈列设计上，从光影交叠的作品画面到温柔透亮的灯箱装置，川内伦子的影像世界像一首悠长的抒情诗，邀请观众在明暗交织中体验时间柔软与流逝的美感。“光影与色彩的交融”贯穿了整个展览的视觉语言，轻柔的色彩让作品之间的视觉联系在治愈中藏着意想不到的冲击力。

The exhibition design transforms Kawauchi’s world into an extended lyrical poem. From overlapping light and shadow in her large-scale prints to softly glowing lightbox installations, the display invites visitors to experience the gentle passage of time and the beauty of transience. The interplay of light and color unifies the exhibition’s visual language, with soft tones forging connections between the works, evoking a quiet yet unexpected impact.

The exhibition a faraway shining star, twinkling in hand will be on view at Fotografiska Shanghai from February 21 to June 22, 2025. The unique photographic language and profound sensitivity to life exhibited by Rinko Kawauchi align seamlessly with the artistic and cultural ethos of SIGMA. This partnership celebrates the transformative power of photography as a medium for emotional and artistic expression. On February 22, Rinko Kawauchi will join Fotografiska Shanghai for an artist talk (livestreaming link will be announced next week, please stay tuned) and book signing, offering visitors a rare opportunity to engage directly with the visionary behind these remarkable works. Additionally, on February 21, the artist will be present at the SIGMA SHOWROOM in Shanghai for a book signing event.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Portrait - Rinko Kawauchi

Rinko Kawauchi (川内伦子) 出生于1972年的日本滋贺县，现在生活并工作在千叶市。她于2001年凭借获得日本最重要的摄影新人奖——木村伊兵卫摄影奖——一举成为国际瞩目的摄影师，并同时出版了三本广受好评的摄影集：《假寐》、《花火》和《花子》。这些被誉为“视觉随笔”的作品展示了她娴熟而细腻的叙事摄影技巧。自此三连首秀以来，川内伦子陆续出版了包括《照度》、《天地》和《光晕》在内的27本摄影集。

她曾获得纽约国际摄影中心于2009年颁发的年度“无限”大奖（Infinity Award）艺术类奖项以及2023年“杰出与贡献摄影奖”，并入围2012年德意志交易所摄影奖。川内伦子多次参与国内外的群展与个展，其中包括巴黎卡地亚当代艺术基金会、伦敦摄影师画廊、哥德堡哈苏中心等地举办的重要个展。她的个展《地球母亲. 在这个球体上，无尽的连结》于2022至2023年在东京歌剧城艺术画廊和滋贺县立美术馆展出。

Rinko Kawauchi was born in Shiga, Japan, in 1972. She currently lives and works in Chiba. Kawauchi burst onto the international scene in 2001, when she was awarded the Kimura-Ihei-Prize, Japan’s most important emerging talent photography prize, shortly followed by the simultaneous publication of three books, Utatane, Hanabi, and Hanako. Met with great critical acclaim, these “visual essays” demonstrate her finesse and skill of telling a photographic tale. Since this triple debut, the artist has gone on to publish another 27 books, including Illuminance, Ametsuchi, and Halo. Kawauchi, is a recipient of the eminent and annual Infinity Award (2009) from New York’s International Center of Photography, in the category Art and the 2023 Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award, and was shortlisted in 2012 for the Deutsche B?rse Photography Foundation Prize. She has joined and held many group and solo shows, both in Japan and abroad, with major solo exhibitions at such venues as the Fondation Cartier pour l’art Contemporain in Paris, London’s The Photographers’ Gallery, the Hasselblad Center in Gothenburg. The solo exhibition M/E. On this sphere Endlessly interlinking was held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery and Shiga Museum of Art from 2022 to 2023.
