如恩设计研究室创始合伙人郭锡恩近日受任为普林斯顿大学建筑系客座教授，于2025年春季学期正式任职。郭锡恩教授此次的授课主题为“凌晨1：35于勿街（Mott Street），自主与参与：勿街 / 纽约唐人街的新愿景”。

Lyndon Neri, Founding Partner of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, will be a visiting faculty at Princeton University School of Architecture, during the spring semester of 2025. Neri is teaching a studio titled "1:35 am on Mott Street, Autonomy & Engagement: Mott Street/ A New Vision for New York Chinatown."

“建筑的自主性与参与性” 这一主题构建了课程的研究框架：探讨建筑的自身逻辑与其作为社会、文化和环境现实的媒介之间的辩证关系。自主性通过形式和材料创新来体现建筑学科的理论深度与知识体系的严谨性，而参与性则关注建筑如何回应人类生活的复杂性，并适应文化与社会经济的动态变化。

The theme of "Architecture between Autonomy and Engagement" frames this studio as an inquiry into the dialectical relationship between architecture's internal logic and its role as a mediator of social, cultural, and environmental realities. Autonomy, defined through formal and material innovation, embodies the discipline's theoretical and intellectual rigor. Engagement, conversely, prioritizes architecture's capacity to address the complexities of human life, adapting to cultural and socio-economic contingencies.

纽约的勿街（Mott Street）作为唐人街的非正式“主街”，是研究城市肌理中“保护与变革”之间张力的理想场所。尽管在城市更新和资本驱动的裹挟下，其独特性正面临威胁，但该街道承载的历史价值和多层次的文化身份使其能抵御同质化的趋势。勿街的移民、劳工及城市变迁紧密交织，使其成为建筑与社会历史之间互动的典型案例。

New York's Mott Street serves as an emblematic site for examining the tension between preservation and transformation within the urban fabric. Functioning as Chinatown's informal "Main Street," its historic significance and layered cultural identities resist homogenization even as gentrification threatens its character. The site exemplifies the interrelation of architectural and social histories, shaped by migration, labor, and urban flux.

Chinatown's evolution—from its Guangdong origins to its current status as a multicultural enclave—reflects broader urban dynamics. Its resilience lies in the communal governance of property and its capacity to absorb external influences without losing its distinct identity. Yet, this resilience raises critical questions: How can architecture negotiate the pressures of cultural commodification and displacement while maintaining Chinatown's complex, heterogeneous vitality?

2006年，郭锡恩与胡如珊在上海共同创立了如恩设计研究室，一家立足于上海并在米兰和巴黎设有分部的多元化建筑设计事务所。除了设计实践以外，郭锡恩也活跃于教育与研究领域。2024年，郭锡恩受任为普林斯顿大学客座教授。2023年，郭锡恩被任命为加州大学伯克利分校霍华德·弗里德曼客座教授。继2021年和2019年担任哈佛大学设计研究生院建筑评论教授之后，2023年，郭锡恩再次受邀担任学院的建筑评论教授。2022年和2018年，郭锡恩在耶鲁大学建筑学院分别担任埃罗·沙里宁访问教授及诺曼·福斯特客座教授。2007年，郭锡恩合著并编辑了由简亦乐（MCCM Creations）出版的《视觉暂留：建筑师绘话上海》。2017年，他与如恩的第一本作品集《如恩设计研究室》由Park Books出版社出版。2021年，第二本作品集《间：空间、时间与实践》英文版由泰晤士·赫德逊出版社出版，中文版由广西师范大学出版社在2023年翻译并出版。

Lyndon Neri co-founded Neri&Hu Design and Research Office with Rossana Hu in 2006, an inter-disciplinary architectural design practice based in Shanghai, with satellite offices in Milan and Paris. Neri received his Master of Architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. Alongside his design practice, Neri has been deeply committed to architectural education and has taught and lectured at numerous universities. Neri was appointed as Visiting Faculty at Princeton University School of Architecture in 2024. He was appointed the Howard Friedman Visiting Professor of Practice at the University of California, Berkeley in 2023, the Design Critic in 2023 and the John C. Portman Design Critic in Architecture in 2019 and 2021 at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor in 2022 and Norman R. Foster Visiting Professor Chair in 2018 at the Yale School of Architecture. Neri co-authored and edited Persistence of Vision: Shanghai Architects in Dialogue published by MCCM Creations in 2007. In 2017, his first monograph Neri&Hu Design and Research Office: Works and Projects was published by Park Books. In 2021, the second monograph Thresholds: Space, Time and Practice was published by Thames & Hudson and the Chinese edition was translated and published in 2023 by Guangxi Normal University Press.
