Hua International is delighted to announce the representation of artist Jinbin Chen.
(Oslo National Academy of the Arts)艺术硕士学位(MFA),2019年获得海牙皇家艺术学院(Royal Academy of Art, The Hague)艺术学士学位(BFA)。
Setting Off Alone From the Far Side of the Moon”,LNM,奥斯陆,挪威(2025);“梦舆图 Dream Atlas”,the Shophouse,香港(2024);“舷窗 Portholes”,Standard(Oslo),奥斯陆,挪威(2023);“后天使时代的预言 Prophecies of the Post-Angel Era”,Kunstnerforbundet,奥斯陆,挪威(2023);“归人 Returnees”,Kohn Gallery,洛杉矶,美国(2022);“欧米伽与(反)衰变图志 Omega and (Anti-)Decay Atlas”,Northing Space,卑尔根,挪威(2022);“家的隐秘性 The Heimlichkeit of the Home”,Fotogalleri Vasli Souza,奥斯陆,挪威(2021)。

Jinbin Chen (b. 1994, Guangdong, China) lives and works between Oslo, Norway, and Beijing, China. He received his MFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2021 and his BFA from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in 2019.
Chen describes his practice as encounters between bodies, images, histories, narratives, and moments that may seem fleeting yet hold the potential to transform intimacy, becoming, and belonging. Desire, gender temperament, power hierarchy, and the politics of intimacy remain central to his work, rooted in lived experience yet expanded into collective imaginaries.
Painting has been the core of his practice in recent years, intertwined with text, object, and sculpture. His portraits often depict friends, imagined figures, or fragmented bodies in states of openness, vulnerability, or anonymity. Through these figures, Chen constructs an erotic language that is sensuous without being explicit. He is interested in how the gaze, gestures, and relationships between figures can embody both power and fragility, and how desire operates in the space between objectification and tenderness.
Chen approaches painting as a porous surface layered with diverse references—ancient gestures, sci-fi or subcultural narratives, and photographic fragments—merging them into multi-layered tableaux. These compositions reflect on intimacy in the digital era, the fragmentary consumption of images, and the reappearance of classical or literary references such as ancient poetry or gesture in contemporary contexts. Across these directions, Chen aims to create spaces where desire and encounter are reimagined—where the intensity shifts between presence and absence, dominance and submission, intimacy and alienation.
Recent solo exhibitions include Setting Off Alone From the Far Side of the Moon (LNM, Oslo, 2025); Dream Atlas (the Shophouse, Hong Kong, 2024); Portholes (STANDARD [Oslo], Oslo, 2023); Prophecies of the Post-Angel Era (Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo, 2023); Returnees (Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, 2022); Omega and (Anti-)Decay Atlas (Northing Space, Bergen, 2022); and The Heimlichkeit of the Home (Fotogalleri Vasli Souza, Oslo, 2021).
Recent group exhibitions include Sweating Under Cold Water (Hua International, Beijing, 2025); Tender Comrade (White Rabbit Gallery, Sydney, 2025); Birth of Poetry (the Shophouse, Hong Kong, 2025); Widely Varying Styles. Selected new additions to the collection (The National Museum, Oslo, 2024); Swallow Mountain, Drain Sea (Linseed Projects, Shanghai, 2023); Myth of the Cherry Tree (STANDARD [Oslo], Oslo, 2023); and Indoctrination: Multivalent Gestures (Fotogalleriet, Oslo, 2023).
