李继开在图像叙事、观念表达上使作品具有一种“新绘画”的特质，即结合当代的视觉经验（如对卡通风格的借用），突出日常图像作为符号的叙事性（如对日常物品的诗性转换），强化“绘画性”的图像表达（如书写性的表现）等，而且能打破图像复制的藩篱，将图像与自我的主体意识与“冥想者”的气质有机的结合起来。同时，李继开还延续和发展了1990年代初“新生代”关注自我体验的创作传统，并赋予其微观社会学的文化洞察力。因此李继开作品的“自我冥想”并不仅仅属于他一个人，而是可以成为一个群体或者当代青年某种独特心理症候的表征。

In terms of visual narration and conceptual expression, Li Jikai’s paintings possess the characteristics of a kind of “New Painting.” They integrate contemporary visual experience (such as the borrowing of cartoon-like styles), emphasize the narrative quality of everyday images as symbols (such as the poetic transformation of common objects), and strengthen the painterly expression of images (such as calligraphic gestures). He breaks through the barriers of image replication, merging imagery with the consciousness of the self and the temperament of the “contemplative subject.” At the same time, Li continues and develops the early 1990s “New Generation” tradition of focusing on self-experience, while endowing it with a micro sociological cultural insight. Thus, the “self-meditation” in Li’s works does not belong to him alone - it also represents a collective or generational psychological symptom shared by contemporary youth.

对李继开来说，他最有价值的地方在于，他从个人的内心经验出发，突破了流行的图式和既定观念，以巨大的创造力和想象力，创造了一个完整、原创的图像世界；创造出来一套具有高度识别性的个人符号系统；创造了一种极具个人化的，具有丰富象征意味和心理内涵的绘画语言。他的这种贡献是中国当代绘画中所非常稀缺的，也是大家一直都在努力的。

具体地说，李继开创造了“一个人的彼岸世界”。

For Li Jikai, his greatest value lies in his ability to begin with personal inner experience, to transcend popular schemas and fixed notions, and to create — with immense creativity and imagination — a complete and original pictorial world. He has invented a highly recognizable system of personal symbols and a deeply individualized pictorial language rich in symbolism and psychological depth. This kind of contribution is extremely rare in Chinese contemporary painting — and precisely what many artists have long aspired to.

More specifically, Li Jikai has created “a solitary world beyond the shore.”

李继开通过自己的语言、形式，构筑了一个极具个人风格的象征系统。在图像造型上，它们可能是具象的，但是在内涵上，它们并不“写实”。它们大多数并不与这个现实世界中某个实际场面，某个具体人物，某件具体事情的发生直接的对应关系，而是一种与现实有着疏离感的图像创造。它们表达的是一种心理的现实，在这个意义上，它们是超越现实的，是用绘画对现实的化装、想象和象征。

Through his unique language and form, Li Jikai has constructed a symbolic system of great individuality. His images may appear figurative in form, but they are not “realistic” in meaning. Most of them do not correspond directly to any actual scene, specific person, or concrete event in the real world. Rather, they belong to a realm detached from reality - the creation of images that express a kind of psychological reality. In this sense, they transcend reality; they are the disguise, imagination, and symbolism of reality through painting.
