Time Is the Thing a Body Moves Through。
The exhibition takes its title from T Fleischmann's book, expanding the gender transition allegory as a reflection on the body's relation to objects and gestures in the world. Across painting, video and installations, Yuan Ming and Chen Dandizi explore processes of transformation in which objects shift toward subjecthood and images emerge through repetition, folding, and time.
Both artists work with fragile materials and everyday forms: gift boxes, roses, candles, books and wallpaper. These elements appear not as static symbols but as sites of action. Paperis folded into flowers, boxes flatten into images, and simple gestures unfold into sequences. The exhibitionis structured around acts ofmaking and remaking in which meaning is never fixed but gradually produced through time. As stated by Yuan Ming:" This process of meaning-making does not end when the artworks are finished. It continues with the viewers being confused or deciding what it is, creating a subtle grey zone in which interpretation remains open."
The exhibition invites viewers to inhabit the works as one inhabits a poem. Letting fragments, rhythms and silences produce their own resonances and accepting that identity, emotion and meaning are not fixed states but processes like forms continuously shaped by the simple fact that time is the thing a body moves through.

Chen Dandizi

Born in 1990 in Guangxi, China, Chen Dandizi currently lives and works in Zhejiang Province, China. Chen Dandizi’s practice spans video, installation, photography, and literature. With a distinctive perspective, her works reveal private insights into natural and human landscapes, while simultaneously exposing the broader social structures and individual psychologies embedded within these moments. By employing imagery from the natural world, she creates narrative and emotional bonds that draw our hybrid realities into deeper exploration. Through a slow and attentive approach, her works focus on the easily overlooked, poetically probing uncertainty as a fundamental state of contemporary life. In doing so, she engages with what anthropologist Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing has described as unpredictable encounters and fragile conditions that not only have the power to transform us, but also to reshape us.
Her works have been exhibited at 8lithe?que (Paris), Times Art Center Berlin (Berlin), Shanghai Biennale – City Projects (PSA Emerging Curators), Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, Lianzhou Foto Festival, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, New Century Art Foundation, OCAT Shenzhen, Beiqiu Museum of Contemporary Art, Palai exhibition(Italy), Para Site(Hong Kong), Frick Fine Arts Building, University of Pittsburgh (America), Centro de Cultura Digital (Mexico), Hua International (Beijing/Berlin), Galerie Continua , ShanghART M50, Capsule Shanghai and Guangzhou Gallery, among others. She was shortlisted for the 8th HUAYU Youth Award in 2020.
