On March 12, 2026, Unfettered Strokes——Zheng Zaidong Solo Exhibition officially opened at RONG Art Space, with the exhibition running through April 9.

在中国绘画的传统中，“逸笔草草”是一种超越技法束缚、直指心性的精神表达。它所指向的，是文人艺术中所珍视的“逸气”——一种在自然、情思与笔墨之间自由流动的精神状态。《郑在东个展：逸笔草草——聊写心中逸气》正以此为题，呈现艺术家郑在东在当代语境中对笔墨精神的持续探索。

In the tradition of Chinese painting, “sketching with free and effortless strokes” signifies a mode of expression that transcends technical constraints and speaks directly to the inner spirit. It points to the notion of yiqi—a quality deeply cherished in literati art—referring to a state in which nature, emotion, and brushwork flow freely and harmoniously. Titled Unfettered Strokes——Zheng Zaidong Solo Exhibition, this exhibition presents artist Zheng Zaidong’s ongoing exploration of the spirit of brush and ink within a contemporary context.

在郑在东的创作中，水墨不再仅仅是一种传统材料，而是一种贯穿创作思想与视觉表达的文化方法。无论是水墨还是丙烯等媒介，他始终以松动而自由的笔触构建画面，使色彩、结构与留白在画面中形成微妙的呼吸节奏。那些看似简约的山水、云气与空间，并非对自然景象的再现，而更像是艺术家内在情思与精神状态的流动痕迹，使作品在宁静与自由之间呈现出一种富于诗性的视觉气息。

In Zheng Zaidong’s practice, ink is no longer merely a traditional medium, but a cultural methodology that permeates both his artistic thinking and visual expression. Whether working with ink or acrylic, he constructs his compositions through relaxed and fluid brushwork, allowing color, structure, and empty space to generate a subtle rhythm of visual breathing within the picture. The seemingly simple mountains, clouds, and spatial forms are not representations of natural scenery; rather, they resemble traces of the artist’s inner emotions and states of mind in motion. As a result, the works convey a poetic visual atmosphere that moves delicately between tranquility and freedom.

Presented at RONG Art Space, this exhibition brings together a series of paintings that traverse different media, inviting viewers into the poetic world constructed by the artist. Between viewing and contemplation, the vitality and rhythm embedded in brush and ink gradually unfold, allowing audiences to sense anew the resonance of traditional artistic spirit within contemporary life. Perhaps it is precisely within these seemingly “casual” or “effortless” strokes that the artist inscribes the inner spirit of ease and freedom that belongs to our time.
