DUMONTEIL Design is on view at the PAD PARIS Art Fair, booth 65. This year’s presentation continues to showcase the diverse practices of represented artists, including ceramic sculptures by Basile Boon, bronze works by Daniel Daviau, and functional sculptures by Jean-Marie Fiori, alongside limited-edition lighting designs by Marine BreynaertVincent Cazeneuve and Weng Jijun present works centred on lacquer as a primary medium, while Ugo Schildge explores a hybrid language between painting and sculpture through mixed media.


The booth also debuts works by several artists presented for the first time, including Constance Lafonta, who creates sculptural lighting pieces in bronze and glass that investigate the relationship between light and materiality; Aurélien Veyrat, who reconfigures second-hand furniture with bricks, plaster, leather, and light to produce works situated between object, sculpture, and installation; and Zhang Xiaodong, whose “Thousand Pages” series examines space, time, and modes of perception, engaging with the legacy of Eastern aesthetics in a contemporary context.

Basile BOON (b. 1986, Namur, Belgium) is a visual artist whose work explores identity, mythology, and ancient symbols, while being firmly rooted in the present. After studying theater and architecture, he initially turned to craftsmanship, experimenting with various mediums. His work transcends personal narrative, merging mythology, archaeology, and religion with elements of his own experiences. The result is a three-dimensional epic—a tapestry of stories from ancient civilizations reinterpreted through his unique perspective.

Marine Breynaert founded Atelier Marine Breynaert in 2010, focusing primarily on lighting. She has built up a visual vocabulary combining minimal lines with an enriched taste over the years. Her richly textured patinas, contrasting lacquers, and light-sculpting lampshades give rise to series that are both powerful and complex. Marine Breynaert’s exacting standards and precise craftsmanship have enabled her to combine different heritages. Her lights are visual paradoxes, somewhere between industrial design and contemporary poetry.

Vincent Cazeneuve  (born in 1977) is a French contemporary artist who uses lacquer as his main creative medium. He takes lacquer culture and traditional crafts related to lacquer as the core of his research, using seemingly simple but complicated artistic language to embrace both Eastern and Western cultures, while constantly experimenting with the possibilities of combining different materials, art forms and traditional crafts with lacquer, and ultimately documenting the flow of time and the imprints of life with works that are rich in texture and layers.

Devoting himself to bronze sculptures, Daniel Daviau focuses on representing animals, especially endangered species. The artist expresses with humor the majesty and captures the caricature attitude of his bestiary. The purity of his lines and the subtle elegance of his design made him one of the most talented representatives of the old and illustrious family of the Animalists.

A contemporary vision of his distinguishable personal style, Fiori's "beasts" are imbued with dignity and childlike purity, sincerity, and mischievousness, bringing heartfelt joy to the viewer.

Her multidisciplinary approach extends to ceramics, metal, and scenographic elements, allowing her to transform exhibition spaces into sites of metamorphosis, where inner states take on tangible form.

Aurélien VEYRAT has been awarded the Jury Prize in the Contemporary Design section at this year’s PAD Paris.


Aurélien VEYRAT's work navigates the intersection of sculpture, design, and architectural form through a refined exploration of line, balance, and material presence. His practice is characterised by a rigorous formal language in which metal structures unfold into rhythmic, often modular compositions, engaging both space and perception. Rooted in a sensitivity to proportion and tension, Veyrat’s works evoke a dialogue between lightness and stability, where geometric clarity meets a subtle sense of movement. Rather than imposing narrative, he constructs open frameworks that invite contemplation, allowing viewers to experience shifts in perspective, scale, and spatial relationships.

Drawing inspiration from lacquer, its characteristics, and its tradition, Weng Jijun provides an alternative for us to re-examine our connection with the world in a way that bridges its different dimensions. Weng Jijun has begun to focus more on the human desire to explore the unknown, using his works to reflect the connections between the macro and micro worlds beyond the prism of science. His mastery of lacquer art has enabled him to transform the traditional 'patterns' and 'motifs' into a search for the origins of life and a depiction of cosmic forms.

张晓栋是一位跨越书籍艺术与空间绘画的中国艺术家,以“千页艺术”与“龙鳞装”工艺的革新性实践而闻名。他以刀代笔,在层叠的纸页中雕绘出2.5维的视觉空间,在平面与立体之间重塑了绘画的物质语言与叙事结构。其创作以“页”作为生命体,既是视觉构建的实验,也是对时间、结构与文化记忆的再书写,在翻阅与展开之间实现空间的无限延展。


ZHANG Xiaodong is a Chinese artist whose practice bridges book art and spatial painting, known for his innovative exploration of Thousand Pages Art and the ancient craft of Dragon Scale Binding (Longlin Zhuang). Using an engraving knife in place of a brush, he carves through layered sheets of paper to create a 2.5-dimensional visual space, reshaping the material language and narrative structure of painting between the realms of the planar and the sculptural. His works treat each “page” as a living entity—at once a visual experiment and a rewriting of time, structure, and cultural memory—unfolding into an infinite spatial continuum through the act of leafing and turning.
