孟东来个展《热空气与机器狗》即将于9月19日于KennaXu画廊（南山）呈现。本次展览集中呈现艺术家于深圳驻留三个月期间创作的全新作品，以及“无人问津”系列中的代表画作，并延续其对“沉浸式白日梦”这一长期主题的探索。从虚拟街景到真实城市经验，孟东来将深圳湿热、蒸腾的城市感受与机器、宠物、人等意象交织，在日常与荒诞、现实与虚拟之间构建出一种游移而失真的当代景观。“热空气”的迷离与“机器狗”的冷静在画面中彼此碰撞，指向科技介入日常之后不断模糊的身份、秩序与关系，也共同编织出属于当下的“集体白日梦”。

Meng Donglai: Steam Dog will open on 19 September at KennaXu Gallery (Nanshan), presenting a new body of work created during the artist’s three-month residency in Shenzhen alongside representative paintings from his Nobody Cares series. Continuing his long-term exploration of the “immersive daydream”, Meng moves between virtual street views and lived urban experience, weaving Shenzhen’s humid, sweltering atmosphere together with recurring images of machines, pets, and human figures. Between the everyday and the absurd, the real and the virtual, these elements form a shifting and subtly distorted contemporary landscape. The haziness of “hot air” collides with the cool precision of the “machine dog”, pointing to increasingly unstable boundaries of identity, order, and relationships under the influence of technology, while collectively constructing a “collective daydream” of the present.

About The Artist

孟东来｜Meng Donglai

孟东来（b.1994，大连），是一名画家与混合媒体艺术家，现主要生活、工作于荷兰。她本科毕业于意大利罗马美术学院，后于荷兰登博斯AKV St.Joost视觉文化研究学院获硕士学位。曾获荷兰蒙德里安基金会新兴艺术家奖（2020）与艺术家专项奖（2021），并受该基金会赞助。其创作涵盖绘画与混合媒体，并持续参与世界各地的展览、艺术博览会及艺术家驻留项目。

孟东来常从日常经验与跨文化游历中提取意象，其创作始终选择保留叙事的开放性，以“毛腿”这一奇异而熟悉的象征连接不同层次印象；它既可单独存在，也作为有趣而令人兴奋的符号，邀请观者积极参与作品涵义的建构。

其主要个展包括：2024“今日风儿甚是喧嚣”（KennaXu 画廊，深圳）、2022“树上的男爵”（B.A.D基金会，鹿特丹）、2021“做柠檬汽水”（AAIE艺术中心，罗马）等。

Meng Donglai (b. 1994, Dalian) is a painter and mixed-media artist currently living and working mainly in the Netherlands. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma in Italy, and later obtained her master’s degree from AKV St. Joost School of Visual Culture in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. She was awarded the Mondriaan Fund Emerging Artist Award (2020) and the Mondriaan Fund Artist Special Award (2021), and is supported by the Mondriaan Fund. Her practice encompasses painting and mixed media, and she continues to participate in exhibitions, art fairs, and artist residencies around the world.

Meng often draws imagery from everyday experience and cross-cultural travels. In her practice, she consistently chooses to preserve narrative openness, using “hairy legs”—a strange yet familiar symbol—to connect impressions at different levels; it can stand alone and also functions as an amusing and exciting sign, inviting viewers to actively participate in constructing the meanings of the work.

Her selected solo exhibitions include: 2024 “The Wind Is Very Noisy Today” (KennaXu Gallery, Shenzhen), 2022 “The Baron in the Trees” (B.A.D Foundation, Rotterdam), 2021 “Making Lemon Soda” (AAIE Art Center, Rome), among others.

KennaXu Gallery was established in 2018, based in Shenzhen Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area.
